Kochi: Noted danseuse Mallika Sarabhai has sought remuneration from Kerala government for the services offered by her to the state as Chancellor of the Kerala Kalamandalam deemed university, media reports said.
She was appointed to the post in December 2022 after ousting Governor Arif Mohammed Khan from the post. The government had considered it as an ornamental post and therefore did not dwell into the remuneration aspect of it, the reports said.
She told an English daily that she worked without a contract for 11 months and that she should be compensated for the time, experience and commitment she gave to the institution, the reports said.
Kerala Culture Minister Saji Cherian agreed that Mallika had sought clarity on the terms and conditions of her service.
The Kerala government is at loggerheads with the Governor against whom the state is planning legal recourse for not signing the controversial bills including the one that will remove the Governor as the chancellor of the universities.
Agreeing to her demands will put the government in deep crisis as it would have to pay salaries to chancellors of other 14 universities.
