Kochi: Chanu Shaikom Meerabai won the first gold for the country in the women’s 49 kg category weightlifting event in the Commonwealth Games 2022.
The 28-year-old lass from Manipur aggregated a total of 201kg (88kg plus 113kg) to lift the top honours in the event even as she was not able to script her personal best.
Padmashri Chanu won Silver in Tokyo Olympics last year.
