Mitchell magic helps Kiwis pass ‘English test’

Kochi: Batting fireworks by New Zealand opener Daryl Mitchell helped his side overcome the English challenge in the first semi-finals of ICC T20 held in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday night.

Mitchell scored 72 of 47 balls while Devon Conway scored 46 of 38 and James Neesham hit 27 of 11 to see Kiwis through to the finals.

New Zealand won the toss and sent England to bat. English posted a score of 166 for the loss of 5 wickets. Moeen Ali was the top scorer with 51 of 37.

In the last five overs, Kiwis batsmen put up aggressive batting. Chris Jordan faced the ire of the Kiwis batsmen as they scored 39 out of his 3 overs. Kiwis won with one over to spare.  

The second semi-final between Australia and Pakistan will be held in Dubai tomorrow.

Finals will be held in Dubai on Sunday.
