Kochi: A police officer has been found guilty of delaying action against a Congress MLA Eldhose Kunnappilly in a physical and mental abuse case filed by a woman who was his acquaintance.
A departmental enquiry conducted against the Kovalam police station SHO found that he tried to persuade the complainant to withdraw the complaint by agreeing to financial settlement with Eldhose.
It was on August 29 the case referred to the SHO Praiju by Thiruvananthapuram City police commissioner. The report said that she was physically abused by the MLA on September 14 at Kovalam. She got medical attention in the hospital and she informed the matter about the abuse to the police.
Under these circumstances the reports recommend action against the cop. The probe was conducted after the complainant accused the SHO of persuading the complainant to withdraw the case by accepting the money offered by the MLA.
The SHO was transferred to Alappuzha yesterday. Now the case is being probed by the Crime Branc which has collected evidence from the complainant.
She has been asked to surrender her phone as she had claimed of having more evidence against him. Meanwhile, the woman alleged that Eldhose took her to different places and abused her.
The Crime Branch is working hard to gather maximum evidence to present before the court when the anticipatory bail application of Eldhose comes before the court tomorrow.
The Crime Branch will slap rape charges only after conducting more probe.
