Court rejects Dileep’s plea

Kochi: In a blow to the actor Dileep, a city court has rejected a plea seeking to close the further investigation against him in the actor abuse case of 2017.

Stating that the new charges leveled against him would sustain, the Principal Sessions Court directed Dileep and his friend Sharat to appear before the court on October 31 to read out the chargesheet against them.

The court will resume hearing the case on November 10. Dileep and Sharat argued that the charges made against them by Director Balachandra Kumar were baseless.

The Crime Branch had booked cases of destroying evidence by Dileep who is eighth accused in the case. Crime Branch said that Dileep delayed in surrendering his phones which were taken to forensic experts to destroy evidence in Mumbai ignoring Kerala High Court direction to hand over his phones before the court.

 The case relates to abduction and abuse of a popular South Indian actor in a moving vehicle and videographing of the event before dumping her in the city February 17, 2017. 

The key accused Pulsar Suni and other were arrested. Dileep was arrested and was in jail for about 87 days. The High Court granted him conditional bail.

As the trial began after disruption due to Covid lockdow,  Director Balachandra Kumar claimed that he was a witness to Dileep watching the video of the actor supplied by his friend and business man Sharat.

Kumar handed over a lot of materials to the Crime Branch gainst Dileep and others. Following this fresh cases were booked Dileep and others and the Crime Branch started further investigation.

The Crime Branch said that the motive behind targetting the actor was to settle score with her who created split between Dileep and his previous wife and noted actor.
