Kochi: Former Government chief whip P C George was taken into custody in the wee hours of today in connection with his hate speech made at Hindu Mahasammelan at Thiruvananthapuram on April 29.
The Fort police Thiruvananthapuram had registered a case under 153 (A) on the basis of the utterances made by him in the conference which if proved can invite a jail term of minimum three years for him.
George was arrested from his house in Erattupetta in Kottayam and taken to Thiruvananthapuram.
George will be produced in the court in Thiruvananthapuram.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Kummanam Rajashekharan has allegedly backed George while Opposition Leader V D Satheeshan justified action against George. Talking to a news channel Satheeshan said that the police should have acted earlier.
He said such things should not be allowed to be carried out in the state.
Congress leader Shafi Parambil expressed anger at George’s controversial utterances yesterday itself.
George who lost the last assembly election had allegedly made similar statements against a community during his election campaign when some people had
allegedly tried to disrupt his programme in Erattupetta.
The complaint against George was filed by the youth league with the Chief Minister and the DGP.
George had been making controversial statements and complaints have been filed against him by many including the actor who was abducted in Kochi in 2017 in which actor Dileep is an accused.
