Global pepper award for Jomy of Kerala

Kochi: Planter Jomy Mathew of India has won the 2020 best pepper farmer’s award constituted by the Jakarta-based International Pepper Community (IPC).

Malaysia and Vietnam have also been selected for the award. IPC is an inter-governmental organisation of pepper producing countries of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.

The awards were declared by IPC Executive Director Firna Azura Ekaputri Marzuti at Jakarta. Jomy Mathew is the Managing Director of Fruit Valley Farmers Producer Co Ltd engaged in fruit promotion.

Jomy is the resource person for the Spices Board and Rubber Board. Jomy is the founder-president of Karnataka Sharavathi rubber producers society.

His pepper garden in Shimoga is the research center of the University of Horticultural Science, Bagalkot. 
This is the first time that a farmer from Kerala is getting this recognition.

Hailing from Cherukattu family in Pothanikad in Ernakulam, Jomy Mathew is the global vice president of Catholic Congress.
