Vandalism Case against LDF leaders: SC dismisses state govt’s plea

Kochi: In a major blow to the LDF, the Supreme Court passed a landmark ruling stating that the six accused, including a present minister, should face trial in the 2015 Assembly violence case. Dismissing Kerala government’s Special Leave Petition against Kerala High Court ruling in this regard, the court said privileges and immunity do not make them stand on an unequal footing. The court said that the act of the MLAs crossed constitutional limits. Present Education Minister is one of the accused.

K T Jaleel, E P Jayarajan, C K Sadasivan, Kunahmed Master and K Ajith were charged under the prevention of damage to public property act and other provisions. The court decision has put LDF’s close friend Jose K Mani’s Kerala Congress (M) on sticky wicket, as the ldf violence was to stop his late father K M Mani present the budget as he was facing bar scam corruption charges. The Kerala High Court had upheld the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thiruvananthapuram, ruling that the criminal case against the accused could be withdrawn.
