S M Krishna passes away

Kochi: Former Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna, 92, of BJP passed away in the wee hours of today, media reports said.
Krishna joined BJP in 2017 quitting the Congress with which he was associated for 50 years.
Krishna was Minister of External Affairs of India from 2009 to October 2012. He served as Karnataka Chief Minister from 1999 to 2004, Maharashtra Governor from 2004 to 2008. He was Speaker of the Karnataka Vidhan Sabha from December 1989 to January 1993. He was also a member of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha at various times from 1971 to 2014. In 2023, Krishna was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award.
He announced his retirement from active politics due to aging in 2023.
After doing his schooling from Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala, Mysore, he graduated from Maharaja’s College, Mysore and took a law degree from University Law College, Bangalore.
He moved to the US to pursue higher studies from the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and The George Washington University Law School in Washington D.C.
Krishna and wife Prema had two daughters.
