Kochi: First time MLA Rekha Gupta, 41, will be the new Chief Minister of Delhi.
A three-time councillor, Gupta started her political career with the Delhi University Students Union elections.
The former Delhi Mayor Gupta was associated with BJP for three decades.
Rekha Gupta was chosen ignoring prominent faces, including Parvesh Verma who defeated former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of Aam Aadmi Party.
Gupta won the Shalimar Bagh seat in the recent Delhi Assembly election with a margin of close to 30,000 votes.
Delhi BJP general secretary Ashish Sood, former Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta, Satish Upadhyay and Jitendra Mahajan were some of the contenders from BJP. Gupta is the National Vice President of the BJP Mahila Morcha. She has previously served as the general secretary of the Delhi BJP.
Gupta graduated from Daulat Ram College and served as the President of DUSU in the 1996-97 session.
Delhi has seen many women chief ministers like Sheila Dikshit of Congress who ruled for 15-years, BJP’s Sushma Swaraj and Atishi of AAP others.
