ED official booked by Vigilance, 3 arrested

Kochi: ED Assistant Director Shekhar Kumar, was among four booked by the Department of Vigilance and Anti Corruption for allegedly trying to defraud a cashew businessman in a FEMA violation case on Saturday, media reports said.
The businessman was summoned by the Directorate of Enforcement ED in 2024 accusing him of violating the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) provisions following which he was approached by one Wilson offering to dilute the ED case at a cost of Rs 2 crore.
The Kollam-based businessman got the second ED notice on May 14, 2025 after which Wilson reached out to him with a discounted offer of Rs 2 lakh, prompting him to lodge a complaint with the DVAC which nabbed Wilson and his accomplice Murali Mukesh of Rajasthan and the Chartered Accountant Renjith Warrier with all evidence.
The ED Assistant Director is the prime accused in the case.
The VACB said it will submit a report to the court of the Vigilance Enquiry Commissioner and Special Judge, Kochi, soon.
Director General of Police, VACB, Manoj Abraham, and SP, VACB, Kochi unit, S Sasidharan, supervised the “spot trap” operation.
