Coal mine blast kills 90

Kochi: Ninety people were killed in a coal mine blast at the Liushenyu Coal Mine in northern China.
A total of 247 workers were reportedly on duty at the time of the incident in Shanxi Province Shanxi known as the country’s coal-mining capital.
Over 100 people were reportedly taken to hospital.
The Chinese President Xi Jinping has asked the government to investigate the cause of the accident and hold those responsible to account.
Officials running the coal mine have been detained. The cause of the gas explosion has not yet been revealed, but state media reported that the levels of carbon monoxide – a highly toxic, odourless gas – in the mine were found to have “exceeded limits”.
A total of 345 rescue personnel are engaged in the operation.
