Kochi: Several leaders from CPM, Trinamul Congress, Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and other from the Opposition were detained by the Delhi Police before reaching at Jantar Mantar on Saturday to take part in protest in support of their demands including removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.Kerala Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vjayan of CPM, CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, former Bengal Chief Minister, CPM leaders M A Baby, M V Govindan Master, A Vijayaraghavan K K Shailaja, John Brittas, MP, K N Balagopal, Brinda Karat were among those detained.Over 40,000 Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) personnel have been deployed to deal with the protests.Media persons are also not allowed to Jantar Mantar.The protests are against the Special Intensive Revision that began last summer as an effort to verify eligible voters and remove duplicate or ineligible names. The protesters say their goal is to ensure free and fair elections for which they demand resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar.The protest was initially organized by the Cockroach Janta Party to seek removal of the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for leak of question papers ofprofessional college entrance examination.
