Kochi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday commended US President Donald Trump for his initiative that has led to Hamas agreeing to release Israeli hostages under US brokered 20-point plan.
“We welcome President Trump’s leadership as peace efforts in Gaza make decisive progress. Indications of the release of hostages mark a significant step forward. India will continue to strongly support all efforts towards a durable and just peace,” Modi said in a post on X.
While Trump has asked Israel to end military action in Haza, Hamas has sought further negotiations on a number of issues outlined in the US’ peace plan on Gaza.
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tel Aviv is “preparing to immediately implement” the first phase of Donald Trump’s plan.
Hamas has not addressed key aspects of the Trump plan like its disarmament and the withdrawal from its role in Gaza’s governance.
