Kochi: The Sri Lankan government is under pressure from the United States to detain the survivors of the sunk Iranian warship IRIS Dena and occupants of the second vessel IRIS Booshehr which docked Sri Lanka port the other day, the Hindu reported.
A US submarine fired a torpedo to sink the IRIS Dena in the Indian Ocean at Galle on Wednesday, killing many.
A total of 208 crew members from IRIS Booshehr, which had stranded in the island’s exclusive economic zone outside its maritime boundary.
The sunken vessel was returning to Iran after taking part in naval exercises organised by India in the Bay of Bengal last month.
