“CPM removes leader on a woman’s complaint”

Kochi: The CPM has removed E N Suresh Babu as Palakkad district secretary following a woman lawyer lodging a complaint with the state leadership of the party against him.Former MLA V Chenthamarakshan was appointed as the new Palakkad district secretary.There is tremendous pressure on the party seeking his expulsion from primary membership.The complaint from Ottappalam is understood to have included evidence against Babu, the Hindu reported. The alleged incident took place at the CPM district committee office in Palakkad, where the woman had been called, according to party sources.Polit Bureau member and Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan is said to have summoned Babu to seek explanation from him. He was asked to step down as district secretary.Babu is learned to have appealed to the party to keep under wraps resulting in the party justifying his removal as part of a political exercise following the electoral setback.There have been a number of incidents of sexual misconduct against women in CPM and the affected parties have not gone to police.
