Kochi: The death of a 30-year-old nun Mary Mercy of an Italian Convent coming under the Diocese of Jalandhar in Faridkot in Punjab has kicked up suspicion among her relatives who have sought a probe into it.
In a complaint to the Alappuzha district collector, her father John Joseph of Arthungal claimed that there was no need for his daughter to end her life as she never complained about any problems.
She was very happy when she last talked to the family before her birthday on December 2, he said, media reports said.
Meanwhile, the convent authorities claimed that the family members and police were informed about it. The police have recovered a letter purportedly written by the deceased seeking apologies from the family and church for her act.
The letter said that she was feeling lonely and depressed, media reports said, the reports said.
The body was taken to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Medical College Hospital where the postmortem was conducted.
The body of the nun was found hanging from the window of the convent Chapel on Tuesday morning, the reports said, the reports said.
The police are enquiring into the circumstances that led to the death of the nun.
