Kochi: Eight Lok Sabha staff were
suspended in connection with the incident of intrusion into the Lok Sabha chamber by two persons when the house was in session on Wednesday, media reports said.
Four accused Sagar Sharma, D Manoranjan, Neelam Azad and Amol Shinde were arrested under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and other sections of the IPC. They were from different states and had planned the operation several months before. They were connected through ‘Bhagat Singh Fan Club’ on social media.
The security was beefed up in Parliament on Thursday and those entering the house were subjected to heightened screening including checking their shoes.
Opposition Leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan said it was a providential escape for the members and others. He wondered what would have happened If the gas was poisonous. Chowdhury said the Prime Minister or the Home Minister should have briefed the House.
Describing the incident as quite unfortunate, Defence minister Rajnath Singh said all the MPs should be careful while giving passes to the public.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with senior ministers inside the Parliament over the security breach.
