AMMA a body of disunity

Kochi: Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) was formed to forge unity in the film industry in 1994 but it turned out to be battleground for artists.

The move to forge solidarity among artists failed to fulfil its dreams with veteran actor Tilakan accusing a few office bearer for allegedly conspiring to deny him livelihoo in the industry in 2010. The second victim of AMMA’s cruelty was Director Vinayan who 2017 moved Competition Commission of India (CCI) against AMMA and Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA).

The CCI directed AMMA and FEFKA to pay a fine of ₹11.25 Lakhs to Vinayan. Soon the actor abuse case surfaced further damaging its credibility as the outfit supportted actor Dileep who was arrested and jailed about three months. Dileep was acquitted a few months back for lack of evidence against him. Justice Hema Committee formed by Kerala Government to study the working condition of women actors made shocking disclosures.
The fresh issue in AMMA is the fight between artists including Drishyam fame Ansiba, Lakshmipriya, Tiny Tom among others with Ansiba Hassan lodging police complaints against Lakshmipriya and Tiny who was accused of making communal remarks against her.
The Kochi city police on May 31 recorded her statements as part of a preliminary inquiry into a complaint filed by her against AMMA.
Hassan appeared before the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Thrikkakara, after she lodged the complaint with the Chief Minister’s office on May 29.
