Kochi: Passengers of Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express 12578 had a providential escape when it collided with a stationary goods train near Chennai on Friday night, media reports said.
There were no reports of any casualty. A few passengers who suffered injuries were being treated in Tiruvallur near Chennai.
The Bagmati Express collided on the rear of the freight train which was standing on the loop line at Kavaraipettai on the Chennai-Gudur section at about 2200 hrs.
Twelve coaches of the Bagmati Express were derailed. Train services in the important Chennai-Gudur section were disrupted.
The railways are investigating whether the accident was caused due to human error or a technical malfunction, the reports said.
Four AC coaches, a generator car and a motor van caught fire.
