Kochi: The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on Tuesday questioned Lakeshore Hospital Managing Director in connection with organ scam in Kerala.
The MD was summoned to ED’s Kochi office to question in connection with cases registered in six police stations in Kerala.
Raids were conducted in hospitals across Kerala by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in June following allegations of organ trafficking racket among others.
Raids were held at nine locations across Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Kasaragod districts, Asianet News reported.
The raids are linked to a larger investigation into an alleged organ trafficking syndicate headed by a Kasaragod native Mohammed Najeeb, 53, who was arrested earlier this year in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh after a month-long manhunt.
According to investigators, Najeeb allegedly masterminded a network that exploited vulnerable and financially distressed individuals by arranging illegal kidney transplants through forged documents.
The racket in Kerala was busted by Kollam City Police leading to the arrest of agent Sreeja, 40, and Sudheer, 31, for allegedly arranging organ donations for financial gain.
Investigators said digital evidence recovered from one of the accused revealed details of an organ transplant carried out in Ernakulam, leading to further arrests and expanding the scope of the probe.
Sources said the Enforcement Directorate is examining financial transactions linked to hospitals, agents and intermediaries.
Bank accounts and money trails connected to the network are being examined by the investigation team.
