Karnataka reject Kerala rail projects

Kochi: Karnataka today rejected all the three rail projects suggested by Kerala citing environmental reasons.

The Kanhangad-Kaniyur and Thalassery-Mangaluru railway projects were rejected as they were not beneficial to Karnataka and also they would cause harm to ecology, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai told reporters in Bengaluru after his meeting with Kerala Chief Minister.

Kerala also failed to discuss the issue of extending Silverline project to Karnataka.

 Thalassery-Mysuru project was not acceptable due to environmental reasons as it was proposed to pass through Bandipur and Nagarhole National park. Karnataka also refused to give its nod to the underground rail route for this project for environmental reasons. 

Kerala’s request to permit to operate two extra buses throuigh Bandipur National park in the night was rejected. Presently Kerala operates two buses through this route.

Kerala failed to discuss the proposal to extend Silverline project to Karnataka.
