Kochi: Over two lakh people in Kerala are suffering from Alzheimers out of the 5.3 million people affected by it in the country.
Situation is grim in Kerala where the number of elderly people is higher compared to the other states, Senju Joseph, Director, Best Dementia Care told thenewsskerala.com.
More than 16 percent of the population in the state is above 65 years. Due to lower mortality rate and migration of youngsters abroad
is adding to the problem, he said.
On the eve of World Alzheimer’s Day on September 21, a campaign has been launched under the caption ‘Know Dementia, Know Alzheimer’s as was done last year.
The campaign focuses on diagnosis, the warning signs of dementia, the continued effect of COVID-19 on the global dementia community among others, he said.
