Kerala rains claim 25 lives

Kochi: Incessant rains in Kerala have claimed
25 lives and four persons are missing while 10 persons have sustained injuries.
Fiftytwo houses were destroyed and 565 homes partially damaged between August 1 and August 4 rendering 18,000 people to over 400 relief camps across the state, media reports said.
A total of 7,852 people are in camps in Pathanamthitta, 5,288 in Kottayam, and 2,651 in Alappuzha 2,651.
Kerala received 205.8 mm of rainfall between August 1 and 4, against the normal 73.2 mm, recording an excess of 181 per cent.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a ‘red alert’ in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.
An ‘orange alert’ has been sounded in Alappuzha, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram and a ‘yellow alert’ in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts.
A ‘red alert’ indicates extremely heavy rainfall of over 20 cm in 24 hours, while an ‘orange alert’ signifies very heavy rainfall between 11 cm and 20 cm, and a ‘yellow alert’ indicates heavy rainfall between 6 cm and 11 cm.
