Kochi: Olympics Gold medalist Neeraj Chopra won silver at the World Athletic Championship, with a best figure of 88.13 metres at Eugene, Oregon.
Grenada’s Anderson Peters won gold, throwing the spear to a distance of 90.54 metres in the sixth attempt.
In his first attempt, Chopra threw it to a distance of 90.21 metres and 90.46 metres in the second. Jakub Vadlejch of Czeck Republic came third, throwing it to as far as 80.09 metres.
Chopra is the first in the men’s section from India to win a medal in the World Athletic championship.
Anju Bobby George is the first Indian to win it in 2003. Neeraj started with a foul. He threw it
82.39 metres in second and 86.37 metres in the third attempt. It was in the fourth attempt that he could reach a distance of 88.13 metres. Neeraj won gold in the Tokyo Olympics last year.
