Kochi: Pakistan is heading for a political crisis as the President dissolved the National Assembly and announced polls in 90 days even as the Opposition moved the Supreme Court against it.
President Arif Alvi announced that the elections will be held in 90 days as per the recommendation of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Pakistan Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib on Sunday said.
Imran Khan will continue as a caretaker Prime Minister, media reports said.
Fawad Chaudhry said that the assembly was dissolved “under article 224 of the constitution.”
Earlier, Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri had rejected the Opposition’s move to bring a no confidence motion describing it as unconstitutional.
Imran Khan’s government had shrunk in strength in the 342 member National Assembly after a few constituents withdrew support to the government.
