Kochi: Noted Malayalam Screenplay writer John Paul, 72, passed away due to ill health in a private hospital in Kochi on Saturday.
He was in the hospital for the last few months. His condition deteriorated on Friday.
His body will be kept homage at Ernakulam town hall from 8 am to 11 am and later at Chavara Cultural Centre with which he had long association.
The cremation will be held at St Mary’s Simhasana Church, Elamkulam, on Sunday evening.
Passing out from the Maharajas College, he took up journalism to start his career. He worked in a bank for over a decade before migrating to the film field where he spent most of his life.
He gave life to many characters in atleast hundred films for actors like Mammootty, Mohanlal and others. Chamaram, Kathodu Kathoram, Ustava Pittennu are some of his memorable films.
He redefined commercial films in Malayalam.
John Paul associated with noted directors like Kamal, I V Sasi, K S Sethumadhavan, Sathyan Anthikkad.
Film personalities like Mammootty and Kamal paid homage to John Paul.
