Kochi: Fauziyya Hassan, 80, who was acquitted in the controversial ISRO espionage case died in Sri Lanka, media reports said.
Fauziyya was ailing and was undergoing treatment on the island.
Fauziyya, who was made accused number two by the Kerala Police, was jailed along with another Maldives native Mariam Rasheeda who was made accused number one. They were sent behind bars from November 1994 to December 1994. Later, the CBI found the case baseless and the court set them free.
Fauziyya was a popular film actor and was a member of the Maldives National film censor board official.
After completing her schooling in Male, she went to Sri Lanka to pursue her studies at polytechnic.
She got a job in foreign affairs ministry in 1957. From 1998 to 2008 she was a censoring officer in the Maldives. She has acted in many films.
