Kochi: Chief Minister V D Satheesan presented the revised 2026-27 budget for the Congress-led government in the Kerala Assembly on Friday.
The budget envisaged to set up an expert committee to restructure the functioning of KIIFB which had created economic instability in the state due to off-budget borrowings.
The government will launch Mission Samudra at Rs 400 crore to develop Kerala into a major player in the global maritime sector.
The government will create facilities for establishing 10,000 MSMEs, with Rs 100 crore.
Kerala Karuthal Mission will be launched to support people facing extreme poverty through CSR funds and public contributions, he said.
The General Education sector has been allocated Rs 1,477.57 crore, Satheesan said, adding that school campuses will be made girls-friendly with clean toilets and access to sanitary napkins.
A total of Rs 25 crore will be used for setting up the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Scientific Temper. Satheesan said the government will develop Sidharthan Student Distress App and bring a law Anti-Ragging and Student Welfare Act in memory of J.S. Sidharthan.

The budget proposed operationise the second medical college in Thiruvananthapuram and establishing a new medical college at Haripad with Rs 100 crore.
The budget plans an allocation of Rs 10 crore for ‘Operation Toofan’ to curb narcotic crimes in the state.
The budget proposed a new tax slab for low-alcohol beverages and reduced road tax on electric vehicles priced below Rs 20 lakh.
