Kochi: Atleast 5,000 police personnel will be deployed to maintain law and order during the Thrissur Pooram being conducted after a gap of two years on
The security focus would be on the Swaraj Round, R Aditya, city police commissioner told reporters after inaugurating the police pavillion in the exhibition held coinciding with the pooram or mega festival.
The police would be more alert in busy areas during the festival, he said.
The Covid restrictions would be strictly implemented.
Fifteen lakh people are expected to witness the event which attracts lakhs of people including tourists from abroad.
Patrolling and checking would be intensified.
Police would set up a stall to display modern arms and other articles used by them on May 10 and 11.
The police department would set up a shooting range in the exhibition.
Thrissur Pooram is a festival dedicated to Vadakkunnathan Siva temple and ten other temples in the vicinity.
The festival was started by the ruler of Cochin state Shakthan Thampuran in the eighteenth century.
