Tough task for Agarkar

Kochi: Retired cricketer Ajit Agarkar faces an uphill task of executing his task as the Chief selector of BCCI three months ahead of the ODI World Cup.
At a time when the country has gone without an ICC trophy in the last one decade, the challenges for the 42-year-old allrounder increases manifold. India won the last ICC title in 2013 by emerging victorious in the Champions Trophy in England in 2013.
With the ODI World Cup 2023 three months away from now, the challenge appears to be tough. Agarkar’s good chemistry with Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid makes his job slightly smoother. Winner of the ODI World Cup twice in 1983 and 2011, India will make every attempt to go for the prestigious cup. Making his debut in 1998 as a right-arm pacer, Agarkar could play only 26 Tests taking 58 wickets. He played 191 ODIs and picked 288 wickets averaging 27.85 with the best figures of 6 for 42.
A Maharashtrian Brahmin, Agarkar married his friend’s sister Fatima Ghadially, a Muslim, in 2002 despite huge opposition from his family. Fatima is an educationist and co-founder of KA Edu Associates, a Mumbai-based sports education firm for kids.
