“Cops continue traffic violation”

Kochi: Law enforcers have given a damn to Kerala police chief’s order to pay penalties by officials who broke traffic rules, Asianet News reported.
The police personnel continue to violate traffic regulations detected by the AI cameras despite the DGP issuing ultimatums after getting thousands of notices pertaining to the violations.
A total of 4,000 notices were sent to Police headquarters in connection with traffic violations committed by policemen across the state, the reports said.
The breaches include penalties for not wearing helmets, seat belts, jumping signals among others.
Before AI cameras were installed, traffic violations were monitored by traffic police teams and motor vehicle department staff who used to turn a blind eye to such violations.
All police vehicles are registered in the name of the police chief who has directed the district police chiefs to pay the fine and recover it from those doing it.
A total of 3,988 notices were sent to police headquarters.
Police have not given clear reply to
an RTI query on the status of penalty paid by the violators. Two months have passed after the DGP issued directions to district police chiefs, who have not responded yet.
With the police officials reluctant to pay a penalty claiming that the violation took place during official duty, the district police chiefs are in a difficult situation, the reports said.
