Kochi: About 13 sovereigns of gold (107 grams), which disappeared from Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram in the morning, was traced in the evening, media reports said.
The gold was taken from the strong room of the temple for gold plating of the sanctum sanctorum door.
The gold was found in a sandy area, where search was carried out in the evening due to heat by bomb squad, police and temple staff.
Mystery still continues as to how the gold disappeared in the high security zone.
The gold was stored in the form of rods.
According to officials, one of the gold rods was found missing on Saturday morning when the stock was reopened to resume the plating work. The temple’s executive officer has lodged a complaint with the Fort Police station.
The gold plating work on the door of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple has been going on for the past few months.
Normally the gold, which is taken out from the strong room, is restored in the strong room under supervision of police and temple officials.
While the last plating was carried out on Wednesday, the disappearance surfaced on Saturday morning.
