Kochi: The saga of over three years old girl Kalyani is so terrorising that the child constantly endured sexual torture from her paternal uncle for over an year before she was done to death by her own mother Sandhya on May 19, media reports said.
Kalyani went missing while being brought back home by Sandhya who said the child was lost in a bus in which they were returning back home from the nursery. The girl was picked up from the nursery at about 3.30 pm before dumping her into Chalakudy river at 6.30 pm on May 19.
On examining the CCTV footage, the police found Sandhya passing by Chalakudy river bridge. A search was conducted by scuba divers who retrieved Kalyani’s body on May 20, a day after she went missing.
After conducting the post mortem at Ernakulam Medical College, doctors expressed suspicion over the child undergoing severe sexual abuse and unnatural sex a day before she died.
Evidence has been referred for forensic examination.
Based on the post mortem report, police questioned Sandhya who said the child was attached to her husband Subhash’s three brothers who were summoned by the cops and grilled before zeroing in on one of them who admitted to the crime.
The police found the root cause of the crime was unrest in the family which created a wedge between Sandhya and her husband Subhash due to which Sandhya lived in her house. Reports of Sandhya suffering from mental illness were rubbished by Subhash.
