Kochi: In a bid to persuade Israel and Iran to end hostilities, leaders of the G7 nations in Canada have appealed to the countries to end war in the region, even as they opposed Iran having a nuclear weapon, BBC reported.
Stating that they have “commitment to peace and stability” in the region, they said in a joint statement that “Israel has a right to defend itself”.
“Iran is the principal source of regional instability and terror. We have been consistently clear that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon,” they said in a statement.
US President Donald Trump left the summit even as US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth announced the “deployment of additional capabilities” to the Middle East to enhance the Pentagon’s “defensive posture”.
In his social media platform Truth, “Trump urged Iranians to “immediately evacuate” Tehran, a city of up to 17 million people.
