Kochi: Yogesh Gupta, who failed to become Kerala DGP, paid price for his honesty and impartial investigation.
A trusted official of former Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, Gupta was shunted out of Vigilance as its Director in the middle of an alleged corruption case probe against CPM leader P P Divya who is an accused in the RDO Naveen Babu suicide case, media reports said.
Yogesh Gupta was among the IPS officers who were transferred by the Left government to fire and rescue services department on May 9 or reassigned duties.
The transfer came when the vigilance and anti-corruption bureau (VACB) headed by him was planning to book Divya for allegedly helping a benami firm get government contracts.
Divya, who was Kannur district panchayat president, was removed after she was booked in Naveen Babu suicide case.
The VACB took keen interest in probing corruption in a few public sector companies but was not given permission by the government.
The VACB also alerted authorities about financial discrepancies in government departments, including mining and geology.
VACB had managed to detect irregularities in more than three government enterprises.
Gupta is a trained and certified chartered and cost and management accountant.
Gupta headed the CBI team that probed sensational cases including the Harshad Mehta security fraud and Ketan Parekh stock market scam.
