Kochi: Police allegedly offered Rs 20 lakh to a Congress leader V S Sujith seeking to withdraw the case Sujith had given against five cops for torturing him in a police station in Thrissur, Asianet News reported.
Sujith was approached through a local leader to withdraw the case filed in a court after complaints lodged with top police officials did not take the matter seriously.
Sujith accused top police officials of not taking action against the police driver Suhair who also assaulted him. Suhair is now working in the Revenue department as a driver.
Policemen who are paid salary from tax payers’ money to protect law took law in their hands by mercilessly assaulting an innocent Sujith who was taken into custody by cops for intervening in an incident where Police were questioning his friends. A Youth Congress leader in Chovannur in Thrissur, Sujith was taken to Kunnamkulam police station where five cops including the driver Suhair gave vent to their anger by assaulting him brutally on April 6, 2023.
Sujith, who suffered hearing loss due to the assault, lodged a complaint to the higher police authorities who let go of the accused by giving them minor punishments.
The matter came to light when the video clippings were released on the basis of RTI application filed by Sujith.
