Kochi: Bengal assembly was dissolved by Governor R N Ravi on the expiry of its tenure and culmination of Trinamool Congress government.
The Governor used the constitutional powers under Article 174 (2)(b) of the Constitution of India to dissolve the government.
The BJP which was voted to power is not able to form the government as outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has tendered her resignation.
Banerjee refused to resign alleging foul play in the election and EVM tampering.
She claimed the Election Commission colluded with the BJP saffron to dethrone her.
Hundreds of central forces were deployed in the state to ensure peaceful polling.
Post-poll violence broke out in several regions of the state in which over five people have been killed.
Security was beefed up in the state after ’s prospective Chief Minister candidate Suvendu Adhikari’s aide Chandranath Rath was shot dead in point-blank range in Madhyamgram.
