Kochi: Two former Indian star batsmen are engaged in a war of words over one adoring another legendary cricketer of Pakistan while the other criticising him.
BJP MP Gautam Gambhir, a former aggressive batsman, has said that Congress Punjab chief Navjot Singh Sidhu has shamed the country for idolising Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, former world cup winning cricket team captain.
Gambhir, who hit the highest of 97 in the 2011 world cup finals against Sri Lanka, said that if Sidhu had so much love for Imran he should send his children to the borders of the two countries.
Gambhir said Sidhu was singing praises of a person whose country was engaged in sending terrorists to kill civilians and army personnel in Kashmir.
He asked whether Sidhu was aware that Pakistan sponsored terrorists had killed over 40 civilians and army men in Kashmir in just one month.
Gambhir slighted Sidhu for hailing a person
whose country has been creating problems for India in the last 70 years.
Sidhu had described Imran Khan as his (bada bhai) elder brother after visiting Kartarpur Sahib Gurudwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, responding to BJP’s criticism, Sidhu said the saffron party need not teach him patriotism as it was the Prime Minister of the BJP who went to Pakistan and hugged the Prime Minister there. Many political parties including the Aam Aadmi Party have criticised Sidhu’s remarks.
