Kochi: Afghanistan has imposed a ban on women traveling long distances without a male relative.
Women can travel upto 72 kms alone, reports quoting a government spokesman said.
Women hitchhikers without veils are not permitted to seek lift from the public in their vehicles, the spokesman said.
The government has published guidelines in this regard.
Women newsreaders in TVs should wear veils. Listening to music in vehicles has been prohibited, the reports said.
The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is ruled by the Taliban which came to power after displacing a government installed by the US led forces which quit the country after making unsuccessful bid to fight terrorism for two decades.
