Kochi: Kerala High Court has sought clarification from the state government on the arrest of those protesting against the Chief Minister in Kochi.
The court sent the notice while considering a petition seeking to make illegal and unconstitutional the arrest of people protesting against the Chief Minister.
The petition questioned the arrest of two transgenders for sporting black costumes by the Palarivattom police during Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s programme in Kochi.
The petition said the freedom to wear black dress in the area was deprived as the Chief Mminister was visiting the place.
In a democratic country wearing black dress to protest is not a criminal offence and taking people in custody for this is illegal, the petition said.
The court posted the further hearing of the case for August 11.
The opposition parties had been protesting against Pinarayi Vijayan by flashing black flags as the diplomatic baggage gold smuggling accused Swapna Suresh alleged that Pinarayi Vijayan was involved in the smuggling and money laundering case.
