Kochi: The Congress today announced late P T Thomas’ wife Uma Thomas as the UDF candidate at Thrikkakara by-elections even as differences in party surfaced on the decision.
Dominic Presentation had sent enough feelers to the party to field him from the place but was humbly rejected by the party. A sulking Dominic was brought round by
senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy.
However, disgruntled former Union Minister K V Thomas indirectly expressed his intention to
keep away from the UDF block. Though he did not categorically announce it, the language used by him gave enough indications towards this.
In a channel discussion, Thomas said he was in favour of developmental projects and backed K-rail project contrary to the stand of the UDF.
He refused to agree that Trikkakkara was a UDF stronghold, stating that many of the UDF constituencies are not with Congress-led front.
He said that though he had a good relationship with P T Thomas and Uma, politics was different from relationships.
Thomas was in the hit list of the Congress for violating its directive against attending a seminar organized by the CPM in Kannur recently.
