Kochi: One of the two cops allegedly involved in a bribery case in Valanchery police station in Malappuram has been arrested while a hunt was on for the other, media reports said.
Sub Inspector Bindulal P B (48) was arrested by Tirur DySP P Shamsu based on a tip off from district police chief.Station House Officer, Sunil Das U H (53) has gone underground. He did not turn up for work on Thursday. An agent of Palakkad has also been detained.
They were booked based on a complaint of a quarry owner who accused the cops of threatening him demanding the bribe. The complainant said he paid Rs 10 lakh to Inspector Sunil Das, Rs 8 lakh to SI Bindulal and Rs 4 lakh to the agent.
The cops have been booked under sections 384 (extortion), 120B and 34 (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and section 115 of the Kerala Police Act on bribery, the reports said.
