Temple ritual triggers contoversy

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has registered a Suo Motu case against the ritual of cleansing the feet of 12 Brahmins to get rid of sins at Sree Poornathrayeesha Temple at Tripunithura.

Administered by Cochin Devaswom Board,
the ritual “panthandram namaskaaram”
costing Rs 20,000 became viral drawing the attention of the court.

The Dewaswom Board board justified the practice saying that it is not done by the public but by the priests of the temple.

The court has posted for February 25 the next hearing of the case, media reports said.

Meanwhile, Devaswom Minister K Radhakrishnan took strong objection to the ritual saying that it is uncivilised and archaic.
