Kochi: A court in Kerala sentenced Shaibin Ashraf to 11 years and nine months, prison, in connection with the murder of a traditional healer Shaba Shareef of Mysuru.
The Manjeri Additional District Sessions Court in Malappuram district sentenced second accused Shihabuddin to six years and nine months and sixth accused Nishad to three years and nine months in prison.
The court acquitted 12 accused in the case which was cracked using scientific evidence as the body was not recovered from Chaliyar river where the convicts had dumped the body after chopping it into pieces.
The DNA test results of the hair strand of Shaba recovered from Shaibin’s car turned out to be crucial.
On August 1, 2019, Shaba Shareef was kidnapped from his home in Mysuru and was kept hostage and tortured at Shaibin’s house to reveal the secret behind his haemorrhoid treatment. Shareef was murdered on October 8, 2020.
Eighty witnesses were examined in the case.
