Kochi: Veteran CPM leader E P Jayarajan has quit as ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) convenor following party directive on Saturday, media reports said.
The 74-year-old Jayarajan returned to Kannur on Friday night without attending the CPM State Secretariat meeting at Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday.
Jayarajan had been keeping away from important functions of the party during the last few years following the appointment of M V Govindan as party state chief.
Jayarajan’s rendezvous with BJP leader Prakash Javdekar amidst Lok Sabha poll heat in April in the presence of Nandakumar had kicked off a hue and cry in the political circles.
Jayarajan has served as Democratic Youth Federation of India chief, MLA from 1991 to 1996 and 2011 to 2021, Minister for Industries and Sports among others.
