Kochi: Kerala’s first case of West Nile virus attack was reported today following the death of Joby of Puthur, 47, in Thrissur today.
Two bystanders were also reported to be suffering from symptoms of the virus attack, media reports said.
The Culex mosquito that causes the disease has been found in the area.
A dry day is being observed in the region.
The deceased was under treatment at another hospital and was shifted to Thrissur Medical College a couple of days back after which the disease was detected.
Joby earned his living by plucking mangoes in certain areas where the presence of Culex mosquitoes have been found.
Fever, headache, vomiting, stomach ache, diarrhoea are the symptoms.
