Kochi: Come Deepavali, bursting of crackers other than green crackers on the eve of the festival of lights is banned.
Green crackers with no chemical impact, Iow-decibel sound level should be used during the festival. The crackers could be burst only from 8 pm to 10 pm. There should not be any residues left behind after bursting crackers, media reports said. Bursting of crackers within 100 metres of Courts, hospitals, educational institutions have been banned.
It may be recalled that the Supreme Court had the other day allowed bursting of green crackers on Deepavali provided the ambient air quality remained better than ‘poor’ category. Setting aside a Calcutta High Court order banning use of crackers, the Apex court said there was no total ban on use of firecrackers but only fireworks with barium salts were prohibited.
On the other hand, the Delhi government has issued a blanket ban including green crackers on the use of firecrackers in the national capital. In September, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee had banned the sale and bursting of firecrackers in the city up to January 1, 2022.
