Kochi: Eknath Shinde took oath as the 20th Chief Minister of Maharashtra while Devendra Fadnavis of BJP as Deputy Chief Minister on Thursday night.
Shinde, 58, was an MLA four times and a PWD minister in the last government.
He used to drive an autorickshaw in Thane to earn a living.
Hailing from western Maharashtra’s Satara district, Shinde migrated to Thane to focus on his political activities as a Shiv Sainik.
He had publicly acknowledged his obligation to the Shiv Sena and its founder, late Bal Thackeray.
He became a member of Thane Municipal Corporation in 1997 and entered the Assembly in 2004.
