Kochi: Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has so many takers that is causing worry to its traditional ally Congress.
CPM-led LDF had been making a number of unsuccessful attempts to woo IUML to its side.
Shockingly the ruling saffron party BJP at centre had made attempts to woo IUML into its camp.
This was done by Shobha Surendran of the BJP during the Kerala Assembly election last year.
However, this was opposed by other leaders of the party.
Congress on the other hand will face disastrous consequences if its long time friend migrated to the rival camp.
With the Lok Sabha election over an year away, LDF is making the ground work to see that it managed to win a few seats in Parliament to improve its sagging image if IUML shook hands with it.
In 2019, the Congress-led UDF had won 19 of the 20 seats leaving LDF licking its wounds.
But, any move to align with the LDF would backfire the League as it goes against its party’s ideology and its voters’ wishes.
With SDPI emerging as a formidable alternative to the Muslim voters, any leniency towards the Communists or the BJP could put it in more dangerous situation.
LDF has today invited the UDF ally to join the left front or get ready for extinction for its association with the Congress.
The IUML destruction has already started due to its continued tie up with the Congress which is a road of destruction, LDF Convenor E P Jayarajan said.
It would be better for the league that it realised the ground realities and the changed world.
IUML would gain nothing if it nursed hatred against Communism. He said that past leaders of the Muslim league had broader outlook.
The gold smuggling and money laundering case against the LDF has made the hit the reputation of LDF.
Jayarajan’s offer comes at a time when Congress firebrand leader and state chief K Sudhakaran appealing LDF allies to quit LDF and join UDF.
